US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth Under Fire Over “Signal Chat” Leak — Pentagon Warns Troop Safety Risk.

A newly released internal report from the United States Department of Defense (DoD) concludes that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hogsett breached security protocols by sharing details of planned military operations on the encrypted messaging app Signal — potentially endangering American troops.

The leak centered on a group chat in which sensitive information about a scheduled airstrike in Yemen — including precise timings for aircraft takeoff and bomb deployment — was shared. The chat inadvertently included a journalist for a prominent media outlet, raising alarms about operational security.

The official Pentagon review found that Hogsett's use of a personal device and unsecured messaging violated department policy.

Although Hogsett has the technical authority to declassify information, investigators noted the messaging app used was not approved for classified communications, casting serious doubt on his judgement.

📣 Reactions & Consequences.

Lawmakers across party lines have criticized the breach — some calling Hogsett's actions “reckless” and demanding accountability.

The scandal, dubbed “Signal gate, has sparked broader debate over secure communications protocols and oversight within the Pentagon.

While Hogsett insists no classified data was intentionally exposed, many defense experts contend that what he shared amounted to operational war plans — highly sensitive by any measure.
